What is a name change card in Free Fire?
A Name Change Card is a single-use item that unlocks the rename field on your profile. Free Fire will not let you edit your nickname without one — unless you are still holding your account's first free rename. One card equals one name change, so it is worth spending it on a name you will keep.
The card sits in your in-game vault once you own it. When you open the rename screen, the game checks for a card (or diamonds) before it saves anything.
Is your first name change free?
Yes. Every new Free Fire account gets one free rename. If you are still on the default random name the game handed you at signup, you can change it once without a card and without diamonds.
That free change is easy to waste. Plenty of players burn it on a typo or a name they regret a week later. If you have not used yours yet, treat it like a card — decide on the exact name first.
Where do free (or cheap) name change cards come from?
Garena hands cards out through several channels. The exact ones rotate by season and region, but these are the reliable places to check:
- Guild store — if you are in an active guild, you can buy a card for 39 diamonds plus 200 guild tokens. That is roughly a 90% diamond saving over the direct route, and it is the most dependable option.
- Login and event milestones — cards sometimes appear as milestone rewards during login-streak and in-game events.
- Event and seasonal missions — completing a mission set often pays out a card.
- Redeem store and codes — the in-game Redeem Store and Free Fire's official channels occasionally offer codes that include a card.
- Dynamic Duo — pairing with a friend and reaching friendship level 3 can reward a card.
- Festival and event shops — during major festivals, event shops sometimes list a name change card at a discount or as a bonus.
Because these rotate, the fastest way to know what is live right now is to open the in-game events tab and read the current reward list. If a card is not there this week, it usually is next week.
What if you have no card at all?
Then the direct route is 390 diamonds per rename. Diamonds are the premium currency, so this is the paid option. It works instantly and there is no waiting for an event.
If you are not in a hurry, waiting a few days for a free card through login or missions saves you the diamonds. If you want the name today and have diamonds to spare, 390 is the fixed price.
How to change your name once you have a card
The rename flow is short. From the lobby:
- Tap your avatar in the top-left corner to open your profile.
- Tap the pencil / edit icon next to your current nickname.
- Paste or type the new name.
- Confirm. The game spends your card (or 390 diamonds) and the new name goes live.
One rule trips people up here: Free Fire caps names at 12 characters, and brackets, symbols, and fancy letters all count toward that limit. A name like ꧁ProKing꧂ is already 9 characters. If the field cuts your name off, drop a decoration or shorten the base word.
Because the card is single-use, do not paste a name into the field until you are sure it fits and renders correctly. Test the character count first.
Does changing your name reset your account?
No. A rename only swaps the text that other players see. Everything tied to your account stays exactly where it was:
- Your rank, level, and match stats are untouched.
- Your friends list and guild membership stay intact.
- Skins, characters, pets, and diamonds do not move.
The one thing to know: your old name is not reserved after you switch. As long as no one else has taken that exact name, you can usually set it again later with another card — but Free Fire blocks an exact duplicate, so if someone grabs it first you would have to tweak it.
