Where is the change name button in Free Fire?
It hides in your profile, not the settings menu. From the lobby, tap your avatar in the top-left corner. That opens your player card, and the rename control sits right next to your current nickname as a small pencil / edit icon.
If you do not see the pencil, you are probably looking at the settings gear instead. Back out and tap the avatar itself.
What do you need to change your name?
One of three things:
- Your free first rename — every new account gets one name change at no cost. If you have never renamed, this is free.
- A Name Change Card — the single-use item for renaming. It is the cheapest ongoing option.
- 390 diamonds — the direct paid route when you have no card.
If you do not have a card yet, the guild store sells one for 39 diamonds plus 200 guild tokens, and events hand them out regularly. Our full guide on getting a free name change card lists every current source.
How to change your name, step by step
- Open Free Fire and wait for the lobby to load.
- Tap your avatar in the top-left corner to open your profile.
- Tap the pencil icon beside your nickname.
- Type or paste your new name, then tap confirm. The game spends your card (or diamonds) and the new name goes live instantly.
Most players paste a ready-made name here rather than typing symbols by hand. Copy one from our Free Fire name generator, come back to this screen, and paste it straight in.
The change is permanent until you rename again, and it costs a resource each time. Decide on the exact name before you tap confirm.
Why won't my new name save?
Three things block a rename, and all three are fixable:
- The name is too long. Free Fire caps names at 12 characters, and brackets and symbols count too. Trim a decoration and try again.
- You used an emoji. The name field rejects emoji outright. Move the 🔥 or 💀 to your bio and keep the name to letters and standard symbols.
- You have no card or diamonds. The confirm button does nothing without one. Grab a card first.
One more thing to know: Free Fire blocks an exact duplicate of a name someone else already uses, so you may see "name already taken." The fix is easy — tweak the spelling, add a symbol, or use the invisible-character trick to make your version unique.
Can you use a stylish or invisible name?
Yes, and the process is identical — you just paste a fancier string. A stylish name is still text, so it goes in the same field and costs the same card.
Two things to watch. First, fancy math-letter styles can show up as boxes on older phones, so pick a name marked safe. Second, if you want no visible name at all, the invisible name trick uses a blank character that renders empty on every device. Both paste into this same rename screen.
How often can you change your Free Fire name?
As often as you want. There is no cooldown and no monthly limit — each change simply consumes another card or 390 diamonds. Only the very first rename on a fresh account is free; everything after that has a cost, so most players settle on a name they will keep.
If you like switching styles for events or seasons, stack up a few cards from the guild store and free sources so a rename never costs you diamonds.
Does renaming work the same on Free Fire MAX?
Yes, because it is the same account. Free Fire and Free Fire MAX share one login and one profile, so a name you change in either app shows up in both. You never rename twice, and you never pay twice — one card covers your identity across both clients.
The screens look a little different. MAX has a cleaner, higher-resolution profile layout, and the edit icon can sit in a slightly different spot, but the path is identical: tap the avatar, tap the pencil, paste, confirm. The 12-character cap, the emoji rejection, and the card-or-390-diamonds cost are all the same.
One practical note: if you run both clients on the same phone, just rename in whichever one is already open. There is no benefit to switching apps first — the new name syncs to your account either way.
